NCAA Games of the week for 10/15/11

Game of the Week: 11 Michigan vs. 23 Michigan State ESPN 11 AM CT

Michigan: Denard Robinson has been sensational as usual in the first 6 games of Michigan's season. He is once again a top Heisman candidate this year. Michigan's 7th ranked rush offense has played a big part in their undefeated season so far.

Michigan State: Michigan State would need to win out this season to live up to where they performed last year. A win against Michigan would really help them reach that success of last year. Their loss at Notre Dame this year was a very bad loss in which they couldn't seem to do anything right. This game with Michigan starts a humungous 3 game stretch in which they play 11 Michigan, 4 Wisconsin, and 14 Nebraska. A win this week would springboard them into that Wisconsin game.

Prediction: I pick Michigan to win in a tight one 21-17.

Upset of the week: 19 Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest 5:30 PM CT ESPN 3

Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech's marquee win against Miami does help bolster their early-season resumé, but I'm still not impressed with this year's version of the Hokies. Their offense got absolutely manhandled buy Clemson in week 5, and their numbers this season aren't very impressive at all.

Wake Forest: Wake Forest's only loss this season was their opening heart-breaker at Syracuse. Since then they have played some impressive football. They beat the Florida State Seminoles last week and sent them out of the Top 25. Wake Forest forced 5 turnovers in the win. Even though their defense was dismal at best (giving up 425 yards) they made up for it with forcing 5 turnovers, with their offense playing flawlessly.

Wake Forest wins this one 49-38

NFL Games of the week 10/9/11

Game of the Week: Philadelphia (1-3) vs. Buffalo (3-1) 12 CT FOX

Philadelphia has been far from living up to their high expectations for this year. Their free agent acquisitions of this offseason haven't showed up at all in the first four games. Their offense has been fairly successful this year with the 9th ranked passing offense and the second ranked rushing offense. Their passing defense has been solid, not spectacular, with the 11th ranked passing defense. Their run defense has been losing them games in this early season. the are the 3rd worst rush defense in the league. Their defense will be challenged by Buffalo.

The Buffalo Bills have been enjoying a somewhat magical start to the season. Even with their 25th ranked pass and 25th ranked run d, they have started the season 3-1, including a big divisional win over the hated New England Patriots.

The Eagles' defensive backs match up well with the Bills' receivers this week. But I predict the Eagles' rush defense will fail them again. Bills win 42-27

Upset of the week: San Diego (3-1) at Denver (1-3) 3:15 CT CBS

San Diego has started off the season very well with their only loss being to New England. Phillip Rivers has thrown for over 300 yards a game, and they have the 2nd ranked rush offense in the league.

Denver. Their defense has been bad. Their offense has been bad. The only thing that hasn't been horrible has been their run defense, and they need that to show up on Sunday.

San Diego had the number 1 offense and the number 1 defense in the league last year and didn't make the playoffs because of their horrible special teams. In fact, they let the Vikings return the opening kickoff of the year back for a touchdown in week 1. I predict that Denver can take advantage of that flaw in San Diego's scheme and win a tight one, 24-23.

Other picks:
Tennessee @ Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh +21. The loss of Kenny Britt is really going to hurt the Titans.

Seattle @ NY Giants: New York: +10. Seattle just doesn't have enough talent to compete in this game.

Cincinnati @ Jacksonville: Cincinnati +7. Jacksonville makes it close, but inexperience hurts them in the clutch.

New Orleans @ Carolina: New Orleans +14. Carolina's running game has been nonexistent in this early season. Cam Newton won't be able to be Superman in this game.

Oakland @ Houston: Houston +3. Houston rides the wave of a big win over Pittsburgh to another win over a much improved Oakland Raider squad.

Kansas City @ Indianapolis: KC +10. Indianapolis has a legitimate shot at going 0-16 this year.

Arizona @ Minnesota: Arizona +3. Minnesota loses in heartbreaking fashion again because of Peterson's lack of touches.

Tampa Bay @ San Francisco: San Francisco +1. San Francisco's epic comeback last week gives a jumpstart to their season.

NY Jets @ New England: New England +7. Tom Brady will go off. Again.

Green Bay @ Atlanta: Green Bay +14. Green Bay is too good to slip up on national telivision

Chicago @ Detroit: Detroit +14. Cutler could get sacked 10+ times in this game.

NCAA Games of the week for 10/8/11

Game of the Week:
#3 Oklahoma vs. #11 Texas ABC 11 AM CT

Oklahoma has to live up to the hype of their pre-season #1 ranking. They had a big win against Florida State at the beginning of the season, but that win has been overshadowed by Florida State's 2 early season losses.

Texas' offense has been hot in the early season with their two quarterback attack of Case McCoy and David Ash. Jordan Shipley's little brother, Jaxon, has also come up big in the first 5 weeks. The second-generation Texas greats are trying to prove that they can be great as their older brothers were.

I have Texas winning this one 35-28

Upset to watch:
Air Force at Notre Dame NBC 2:30 CT

Air Force is coming off an emotional Overtime victory over Navy in their annual rivalry game.

Notre Dame has already put up a couple of disappointing performances this year, but they have won 3 games in a row over Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Purdue.

I'm picking Air Force in this one 28-24.

Amanda Knox Trial

Amanda Knox was an American studying abroad in Italy. She had a British roommate named Meredith Kercher. Her roommate was found brutally stabbed to death, and Knox and her boyfriend are being tried for the murder. This happened back in November 2007. The case isn't very clear cut (no pun intended). The past 4 years have been a lot of accusations, and verbal take backs. The case has been taking place in Italy. The verdict was finalized today,  Amanda Knox was declared not guilty.
